ABIGAIL BOWEN

Abigail Bowen is a British abstract painter known for large-scale oil paintings that seek to evoke an emotional response through colour, atmosphere, and gesture. She studied Fine Art: Painting at Chelsea College of Art and Design, graduating in 1996, and is now based on the south coast where she exhibits regularly.

  • Bowen describes her practice as painting at “the edge of the rainbow”. Works often begin from a word, mood, or passage of text. Through layering, revision, and editing, she develops autonomous fields of colour and light that sit between memory and sensation.

Recent activity includes new studio series and showings at UK art fairs. Her paintings are held in private collections in the UK and internationally.

  • Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Southern Rhône
Generous and layered. Ripe red and black fruit, sweet baking spice, liquorice, hints of garrigue and warm earth. Full body with a broad, velvety finish.

Why it pairs with Abigail Bowen
Her large-scale abstracts build luminous fields of colour and atmosphere. Châteauneuf-du-Pape mirrors that energy and glow: abundant fruit, spice and warmth in rich layers, yet held together by a clear structural core. Exuberant, expansive, and resonant.
